Most Kiwis think of Pohutukawa as the "New Zealand Christmas Tree", although we don't cut them down to put them in our houses. They tend to bloom around Christmas time, and they're very beautiful to look at in full bloom. Their flowers are rather oddly shaped, and they're very very red.
