UnequipItem Note[edit source]

For the record, I don't find the wording particularly clumsy or awkward. Seems like a good note to me!
DragoonWraith · talk · 13:18, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thanks DragoonWraith. I often find that my explanations tend to be clunky, and I don't know how to explain it any better. It's good to know that this one makes sense! Cipscis 14:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Kudos[edit source]

Just wanted to thank you for the work you've been putting in. Every bit helps!
--Quetzilla 04:45, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks man, I really appreciate that. I'm glad that I feel experienced enough this time around to feel confident enough to add to the Wiki.

crazy kiwi[edit source]

Your country is amazing and I wish I could go back there tomorrow.
Done any tramping recently? Or is that not your thing? (Is that even possible in that country?)
--Quetzilla 12:10, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh, you've been here before then? I've done a bit of tramping before, but not for quite a while. In January 2006 I did a three week Outward Bound course in Anakiwa that involved a couple of long hikes (2-3 days), but I haven't been able to do any since then as I don't often visit areas that are good for hiking.
Most of my outdoor activities involve the ocean. I often go with my family to our bach at Oakura (<-- warning, photos of me as a child) where we go kayaking, boating and sailing. We have a

That last bit got cut off it looks like :P
Yeah, I was down there in 2000. Did kind of a tour of the country, although some of the names escape me. We went up to the northern point area, did a Hangi dinner, the name Rotorua sounds familiar. We did noob sea kayaking on the Abel Tasman coast (my favorite part). We also did the Routeburn trail down in that crazy unexplored south area. Skiing at Queenstown. Farmstay in Christchurch (If there's one thing I'll never forget, it's the pits of sheep corpses all over lol).
I was a big fan and I want to go back eventually, maybe to stay.
--Quetzilla 12:30, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Oops, I was going to say that we have a two person catamaran, three single kayaks and one double kayak, and a boat big enough for the five of us. We rent the place out for most of the year , but the guests usually only get access to the kayaks.
So you visited in 2000 eh? I must have been around 12 years old then, lol. I've lived in Auckland all my life, but I've got relatives all over the country so I've managed to see a decent amount of it. I'm going town to my uncle's farm tomorrow (or later today, if you want to be technical about it) for Christmas, but I forget just where it is. I haven't visited them there in years so I'm really looking forward to it.
Are you sure it's not the smell of Rotorua that you remember? That's what it tends to be known for, unfortunately. Whereabouts in the world do you live at the moment?
-- Cipscis 12:44, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Currently... Pittsburgh. The housemates (who mostly stay in their rooms all day anyway) are gone for winter break, so now I'm here in an empty house. And sick.
Pittsburgh is actually a pretty interesting place (BGS did pick it for DLC location -- over New York!). But it's not where I want to spend too many more years of my life.
Auckland was pretty cool, camped out in a... sheep farm, just outside the city, when we first flew in there. So many sheep in your country :P.
--Quetzilla 13:20, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Pittsburgh, eh? Any plans to mod your house into Fallout 3 once The Pitt is released then? I suppose considering the fact that it's winter over there and you're sick then I really shouldn't rub it in that it's summer here and I'm going up to the beach in a few days, lol.
Yeah, we've certainly got a lot of sheep here. As of May 2007 I think the ratio was about 10 sheep per person, lol.
-- Cipscis 13:32, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Really? That low? I thought it was 30:1.
And actually, I went there during my summer, so I'm down a summer compared to the average northern hemispherite, and up a winter.
--Quetzilla 13:36, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, people often just make up a number like that on the spot to tell you I think. Here's my source if you're interested - Sheep Myth.
It sounds like you're about due for a good old New Zealand summer to even things up a bit, lol.
-- Cipscis 13:55, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
From the looks of that article, it may actually have been true... in 2000 :P.
What still boggles my mind is the idea of Christmas in the summer. It's just beyond conception for an ideal Christmas to be anything other than snowy, accompanied by wood fires and all that.
--Quetzilla 14:06, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
You think? I've always associated Christmas with Summertime - going to the beach, eating dinner outside and stuff like that. After all, it's so much easier to enjoy a holiday when it's nice out!
-- Cipscis 14:13, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Do you guys do... Christmas Trees?
--Quetzilla 15:05, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, of course we do! We've got one in our living room right now, all dressed up just like it should be. Most Kiwis think of Pohutukawa as the "New Zealand Christmas Tree", although we don't cut them down to put them in our houses. They tend to bloom around Christmas time, and they're very beautiful to look at in full bloom. Their flowers are rather oddly shaped, and they're very very red. Around this time of year the Pohutukawas fill New Zealand with Christmas colours, it's great.

User Page Image[edit source]

Hey man, sorry, but Bethesda wants the Image Upload service to only be used for tutorials; not personal images allowed. I'm going to have to mark it for deletion, sorry about that.

And yeah, I know they broke their own rule; that's just how things go, I guess.
DragoonWraith · talk · 06:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I saw what they'd done on their User pages and figured it would be ok, but if it's not then that's cool.
-- Cipscis 08:56, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Heh, they also signed their tutorials, which is another big no-no around here. It's their Wiki, they can do that.

Token being added from terminal result script not being added[edit source]

I am sorry to call out directly to you for help but the nexus forum is down and this bug is the only thing stopping my mod from release. I have followed your advice about using unplayable armors for tokens and I have used it to control a terminal's menu. I have the player read something and I then use additem ARAWprimesafedoorkey 1 1 in the result script area. The menu is then set to force refresh and I have another menu with the condition: "getitemcount arawprimesafedoorkey >= 1.00 run on subject" I also have a menu that will only show why getitemcount returns 0, again running on subject. I really want to use tokens for this since I need to be able to run a script in gamemode as soon as the player exits the terminal. My problem is that the terminal acts as if the player never got the token. Anyway thank you for reading this and please help if you can. Warll 07:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I assume that you've checked that the token is being properly added to the player's inventory? It sounds to me like you should change the condition using GetItemCount from "Run On Subject" to "Run On Reference", and select the player specifically. If the condition is attempting to check GetItemCount on the terminal itself, then it will always return 0 so your condition will never be true.
-- Cipscis 07:37, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you the run on reference did that trick, my file is now up on nexus. Again thank you for all your help.Warll 17:52, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

FF7[edit source]

Hey, I noticed your avatar on the forums was Cloud from ff7. I know there are a lot of fans out there, but since you're also a part of this modding/scripting community, I thought you might want to see what I'm working on right now, as it relates to ff7. Let me know if you're interested. I'll take some screenshots or something.--Omzy 13:59, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Ooh, FF7? What are you working on?
-- Cipscis 06:51, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Basically trying to do the battle system from ff7 in fallout 3. Also designed some major structural components of midgar, but i think i might start from scratch with a custom .nif for the whole city structure at some point. My current goal is to 'remake' the game through the first reactor. Since the wiki can't host images, if you've got an email, ill send a few screenshots.--Omzy 07:07, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Sounds pretty cool! You can contact me via email at cipscis@hotmail.com.
What sort of functionality are you looking to achieve with the battle system? I remember helping a user called Jedidia with on a mod called Finally Turnbased earlier in the year, which worked to convert the battle system in Fallout 3 to a turnbased one. It could be worth having a look at for something like this, here's a link:
Finally Turnbased 0.9.6 by Jedidia @ Fallout 3 Nexus: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4446
-- Cipscis 07:38, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I checked out the youtube vid for Finally Turnbased and found it to be an interesting idea. What I'm trying to do is very different, however. I am basically 100% abandoning fallout 3's combat system and doing it the way the ff games did, using animations and menus to control the battle sequences. I have gotten bogged down in some scripting issues, so the look isn't anything special yet, but ill send you some screenshots to get an idea of what it is.--Omzy 11:05, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
It sounds like a very cool idea, and I can see how VATS cameras could come in very useful there. Let me know if you ever need help with the scripting side of things - I always enjoy a challenge!

Restoring moved pages[edit source]

Hi Cipscis. You restored the toolkit page today after Jake had his fun with it. Could you move the original page back next time, instead of recreating it with the same content? That would preserve the edit history. Thanks!
--Qazaaq 22:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip Qazaaq, I'll keep it in mind for next time. I just tried to do that now to the Toolkit page, but when I tried to move the page back to its original location I received an error message. Was there something that I should have done differently in order to enable this?
-- Cipscis 22:27, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
When a page is moved the original page is automatically turned into a redirect, you know this already. At that point you can safely move the old page back, over the redirect. No problem there. But as soon as the original page (with the redirect) is modified it starts leading its own life and overwriting it with the moved page is no longer possible without special rights. By copy-pasting the old text of the toolkit page over the redirect you did just that, modify the old page. This makes moving back impossible without help from Bethesda.
The toolkit history isn't very important so we'll leave it like this. Just thought I'd give you a heads up before this happens to other pages.
--Qazaaq 23:33, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, oops... Thanks for explaining that all, I'll definitely keep it in mind if I see a similar situation pop up again.

Perk Entry Condition[edit source]

Hey Cipscis, I just want a lil help.... Is there a condition like GetPerkEntry or something that can be used in scripts? I'm making a "Skill" with fose where, once you tap it, people are pushed away and dealt damage. I'm just thinking, would it be possible to make a script where the original values would be multiplied by the perk entry number you're at? Thanks. War Never Changes Kalizar 22:27, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
